A new exhibit focused on the art of songwriting will open May 28 at the Grammy Museum in downtown Los Angeles, organizers announced. Titled Tower of Song: Iconic Songwriters & Recordings, the exhibit will look at how memorable songs are written, recorded, and passed into music history.
The museum said the exhibit was created in partnership with the Songwriters Hall of Fame and will connect major recordings with the writers and artists behind them. Featured names include Prince, Nirvana, Janet Jackson, Miles Davis, Neil Diamond, Diane Warren, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Frank Sinatra, Jim Morrison, Keith Moon, and Allee Willis.
Visitors will see artifacts, archival media, and commentary tied to songs and recordings recognized by major music institutions. The exhibit will also include an original film and an interactive feature asking visitors to think about what makes a song worthy of Hall of Fame status.
The opening day program will feature Jimmy Jam and Diane Warren discussing songwriting, recording, and the lasting impact of well-known songs.
